How We Grade & Measure at Remedy Outfitters

Clothing Production & Environmental Impact

Share |
A surprising amount of resource goes into the clothes we all wear. Did you know that it takes 1,500 gallons of water and 1 pound of oil just to produce just one pair of jeans? The production process can also have serious environmental impact if care is not taken to properly dispose of used dyes and chemicals. Excess pollution is not a necessary side effect of making clothes; chemicals can be treated properly and dyes can be re-mixed and re-used. Unfortunately much of our clothing is produced in nations where labor is cheap, and regulations are lacking. In these regions, the careless dumping of dyes and chemicals can (and does) have a drastic impact.

Clothing ReUse & Recycling

The value of reducing theese ill effects of cannot be overstated, and this is why purchasing pre-owned clothing is significant. The more use we can get from something that has already been produced, the less we need to use additional resources. For the sustainability minded consumer, buying second hand is a no-brainer. It saves money, it saves resources, it reduces pollution - in short, it helps everyone involved.

Of course, second hand shopping is only one half of the reuse equation. The other half is what you do with the clothes that you already have, but no longer want. Whether you've simply tired of the style or they're just too worn out to wear anymore, somebody out there can make great use of them! If your old clothing is still in good shape then you should consider donating it. This not only guarantees that will your old clothes will continue to get use, it also means you will probably be helping somebody in need. There are lots of places to donate clothes, from Goodwill and the Salvation Army to local thrifts, church groups and charities.
If you've got something that is simply no good to wear anymore, there are still plenty of great ways to make use of them. They serve well around the house as spare rags and are great crafts material for making decorative art, clothing for your pets or even a new garment for yourself! There are also companies that use scrap clothes to make insullation and other usefull products that would otherwise require much more resource to produce.

Remedy Outfitters & The Environment

The Remedy Outfitters business model is founded on re-use. All of our inventory is sourced on second hand markets, and most of it is pre-owned. We go to great lengths to sell only the highest quality clothing. Anything that isn't clean and in good shape is sent to other recyclers who will process them into rags, insulation, rugs, purses and other usable commodities. This business was not established as an environmental effort, but we are very aware that we have the potential to help conserve resources and reduce pollution - and we intend to maximize that potential.

We are just one of many small busineses that are happy to promote reuse and conservation. You can find more all over the internet - just do a search! For example, you can find a green company to meet almost any need at SustainabilityStore.com. We hope that you, like us, are realizing that you can get almost anything you want without wasting precious resources. So why not try it? We like to think that it's never too late to start saving the world.
